Statement on the granting of Pardon by the Government of the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates' government has granted pardon to 220 Filipinos incarcerated in the United Arab Emirates, which is good news for the Filipino people. This increases the ties between the two countries. It goes without saying that every country relies on one another.

Countries in the Middle East, such as the UAE, need the labor force of Migrant Workers from countries with a lack of jobs, like the Philippines. This development further promotes the Labor Export Program of the PBBM Government due to its failure to provide jobs and livable wages for its citizens.

Migrante Middle East is pleased with the decision of the UAE government. On the part of the Philippine government, it needs to improve the provision of legal services for Filipinos facing cases and on death row in the Middle East. Various government agencies such as the Embassy, MWO, OWWA, and the Department of Migrant Workers have allocated funds from the SAKLOLO FUND to provide all legal assistance to our compatriots facing cases. The increasing number of Filipinos detained in other countries reflects the slow assistance provided by the Philippine government to OFWs with legal cases.
