Statement of Migrante Middle East on detained Filipinos in Qatar
4/4/20251 min read
Migrante Middle East calls for the immediate release of remaining overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) still detained in Qatar. Regardless of political affiliations, we firmly believe that all OFWs deserve protection and support in times of distress. As an organization committed to advocating for migrant rights, we are extending all possible assistance to those affected and their families.
We acknowledge the ongoing efforts of the Philippine Consulate and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in mitigating the situation. Their swift response and diplomatic interventions are crucial in ensuring the welfare of the detained OFWs, and we encourage continued engagement with the Qatari authorities to secure a just resolution.
Migrante Qatar coordinators are on the ground and ready to provide direct assistance to the affected OFWs; rest assured that the organization is doing everything it can to help our fellow Filipino people. Our team is committed to offering legal aid, guidance, and any necessary support to help navigate this challenging situation. Additionally, through our offices in the Philippines, we are reaching out to the families of those detained to provide updates, assistance, and any necessary coordination to ensure their rights and well-being are upheld.
Now more than ever, we must rise above political divisions and stand united as Filipinos. The struggles of our fellow migrant workers go beyond political affiliations, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that no Filipino is left behind. In the face of adversity, solidarity remains our greatest strength.
We urge the Filipino community in Qatar and across the Middle East to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and extend support to those in need. Migrante Middle East will continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of OFWs, wherever they may be.##
